Plants are probably the most important living organism in nature. Plants are the only thing i nature that can make its own food with the sun and other natural resources. Also plants are important because it helps animals and other living creatures by giving them oxygen.
In the taiga, the plants, also known as flora, are mostly cold-tolerant evergreen conifers with pointy leaves, such as: pine, spruce, and fir plants. The leaves of trees in the coniferous forest do not fall off in autumn or in winter.

Black Spruce
The Black Spruce tree is a type of plant that grows in the taiga. It can grow up to twenty-five meters tall. When it gets older the point of the tree, which is the crown, becomes more and more like a pointy spike. The leaves are sharp needles and the needles are blue-green, short and pointed. The leaves are usually a half an inch long.
This type of tree has pinecones in it. The pinecones's colour is black and the seeds of the pinecone are usually purplish-brown. The branches are usually drooping and layered. Animals like the moose, deer and elk can't feed on this type of plant.

Balsam Fir
The Balsam fir is mostly found in the northeastern part of North America. It is found in taiga biomes. This plant is a medium sized native evergreen tree. It can grow to become 40 to 80 feet tall. The Balsam fir has wide base and a very narrow top the end in a slender, spire like top. the branches grow from the trunk at perpendicular angles, with the lower branches spreading and drooping to the ground. This plant can grow to be a maximum of 200 years old!!
The wood of this plant is sometimes used as lumber. It is lightweight, low in bending and low in resistance to shock as well. The tree is often used as a Christmas tree or cabin logs!!

Paper Birch
The Paper birch has a thin bark that peels in horizontal layers which separates into sheets, almost like paper. That's why it's called paper birch! Birch trees can grow in pairs or big groups. There are many different types of birch trees and they all grow fairly tall. They can grow anywhere from sixty to eighty feet tall! Smaller types of birches are yellow birch, which grows anywhere from fifty to seventy-five feet tall. The river birch which grows between fifty to sixty feet and the smallest, the gray birch, rarely grows higher than forty feet tall.
Paper birch or white birch was used by Indians to make canoes. Indians still make lots of things, for example, ornaments and small baskets. Siberians collect the sap of the weeping birch to make syrup.
